今日はニシュタさん（インド人のインターン生）と一緒に
インドと日本の環境問題（主に大気汚染）について
話し合いました！

同じアジアであっても、インドの大気汚染問題については
ほとんど何も知らなかったので終始驚きと発見でいっぱいでした。
見せてもらった写真は自動車の排気ガスや伝統的な祭りの花火や爆竹で
空気が濁っており、余程深刻な問題だと一目でわかりました。
個人的に1番の驚きは車のナンバーによって、その日は走れるかどうかが決まることです
偶数ナンバーだと偶数の日にしか走れないとか。
中国にも同じルールがあって、これを2回破ると免許はく奪されてしまう地域もあるらしいです。
日本にはない大気汚染対策で驚きました。

また、日本とインドを比較してみるといろいろな疑問が出てきました。
普段特に意識したことがないことでも、他国の人から見たら「？？？」らしいです。
でも、「工場の排気ガス処理はどういう仕組みなの？」とか聞かれても…。
（宿題にしました。）

車の排気ガスやエネルギー問題などインドも日本も環境改善を考える上では
共通していることが多かったです。
また、モニタリング調査やデータの精度を上げるということは考えたことはなかったですが
確かにそれは大事だと思う意見も出てきました。
主に以下の3つについて話し合いました。

①乗り物
②買い物
③意識すること

自動車の利用を控えて、公共交通機関を利用する！
買い物のときはエコバッグを持参する！
学校の授業などで環境問題について学ぶ！など様々な意見が出てきました。

せっかくなのでそれぞれ日本語と英語で書きました。
日本語の方が私です(英語は苦手です）。

意見交換の段階ではお肉を食べないという意見もありました。
家畜業はかなりの温室効果ガスを排出するらしいです。
お肉好きだけど…、少し控えてみることも検討しよう…。（ダイエットだー！）

私個人の環境改善提案として、まちづくりの企画で、外灯や避難所に自転車発電を取り入れようというものを考えてみました。

みんなで自転車に乗って、しかも発電することができて、環境にやさしいし楽しいという夢の企画…。
ただ、自転車で発電するには相当の労力が必須となるというデメリットがあるわけですが。（ダイエットだー！）

今回頂いた意見を参考に、楽しいまちになると信じて納得のいく企画案を頑張って作りたいと思います。

Today’s workshop with Nakano San, was indeed very insightful and engaging. First, I presented on the topic: “Air pollution in India and Japan”, which encompassed air pollution levels and related information in both the countries, comparison between the two countries regarding the policies and pollution status, and finally, a list of recommendations to the government for combating air pollution more effectively.

The presentation was followed by questions from Nakano San, on topics like the odd and even rule, dust collector and desulphurization equipment. It was interactive and I had to brainstorm a lot to present my content in the Japanese language, as I am not very proficient in the same. However, I tried my level best by using phrases to describe certain terminologies and in the cases of absolute ambiguity, I had to resort to Google translator. I would like to point out that all the members present there were extremely patient with my speech and time taken to explain the content, which made me even more comfortable and confident to present.

Later Nakano San presented on electricity generation using bicycles, and it would be justified to mention that I was blown away by the idea itself. The way this electricity generation technique can be utilized in restaurants, evacuation sites, houses and for illuminating the statues and hoardings on the roads, was both intriguing and inconvenient to think of at the same time. However, in my opinion, installation of a portable, affordable and a light weighted electricity storage unit or a battery in the bicycle, could solve the need of having to peddle incessantly for electricity generation.

Finally, in the end, I collaborated with Nakano San to prepare 2 posters in English and Japanese each, on what we had discussed today. I got immense exposure while doing that because I was interacting with someone who does not belong to India, and second of all, I put my best foot forward to converse in Japanese. The discussion involved a lot of brainstorming, negotiation and creativity to think out of the box and not just write what other researchers have already written in the past. Thus, after a fruitful discussion and mutual collaboration, we jotted down three major points for the poster and worked individually thereafter. Overall, it was an engaging and an interactive day of my internship today at the Aozora Foundation.
